Mission Statement and Goals
Mission Statement:
To incorporate a balanced literacy program that promotes reading, writing, and speaking.
To promote mathematical concepts in the areas of problem-solving, creativity, and independent thinking.
To develop and enhance a learning environment in which teachers, children, and their parents build an equal partnership that can support students in all areas of physical, cognitive, and social behaviors.
Instructional Focus:
The instructional focus at Chapmanville Primary School is planned around a balanced literacy program supported by a Reggio-inspired approach throughout the entirety of the learning environment. This will include elements of guided reading, guided math, and interactive writing. All classes are moving towards increasing small group instruction over whole group so that targeted practice of skills support individualized learning. CKLA teaches skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and builds knowledge and vocabulary in literature, history, geography, and science.
Achievement and Growth
By the end of the school year, 75% of students will score at or above the required benchmarks on ELA assessments. The instructional focus at CPS is centered around a balanced literacy program, supported by a Reggio-inspired approach throughout the entirety of the learning environment. Guided reading is implemented in all kindergarten and first grade classrooms. State standards are used and made learner friendly by displaying and decomposing them into learning targets.
By the end of the school year, 75 % of students will achieve mastery in math. GO MATH and the Think Central online component will be used to ensure alignment with WV content standards. We also implement number talks, guided math groups, and grappling strategies. Students took math benchmarks at BOY, MOY, and EOY.

Communication and Family Engagement
Families are an integral part of their child's education. Educators will endeavor to welcome families, build relationships, and actively engage them in the learning process. In addition, the educators will build relationships with community partners to strengthen the aspect of real-world experiences for children. Chapmanville Primary School classroom teachers will communicate with families each day through My Day via email, and the school staff will host a Tiger Tuesday event each month, which will increase family/community involvement. Sign in sheets from Tiger Tuesday events will be used to document success, as well as parent/teacher surveys. Administration will track teacher communication using My Day.

Organizational Excellence
At Chapmanville Primary we will strive to make teachers and administrators accountable to document all meetings, minutes, and attendance. Teacher voice and administrative voice will be documented and voted on. Weekly PLC attendance from all committee members will be mandatory as direction for goal setting and achieving goals will be determined; each PLC will have a focus and all members will bring necessary data as evidenced by the PLC agenda and minutes. For this school year, Chapmanville Primary staff will participate in weekly PLCs to collaborate and analyze student data as evidence by agenda, minutes, and administration participation/observation.
